We have always had a keen interest in this spunky, friendly little white terrier known lovingly by their owners as the “Westie”. It took us awhile, and a great deal of research to locate our current family of Wesites, we wanted the best quality dogs to establish our breeding program. Health, temperament and breed standard are priorities in our kennel. We never breed dogs with known genetic or breed faults. We strive to breed as close to the standard as possible. We stand behind our dogs with a 2 year genetic guarantee and lifetime breeder support.
Our dogs are members of our family; they are not “kennel” or “run” dogs. We only have three Westies and they interact with our family daily. We feel very responsible for the puppies they will produce, that is why we have a strict spay/neuter clause in our contract as well as a first right of refusal clause which states that we as the breeders will take back any dog for any reason through out it’s lifetime if the owners no longer want, or can care for the dog. We do not want our Westies to ever end up in a rescue situation.
We encourage all inquiries to read about Westie’s on the national club’s website www.westieclubamerica.com. They are very spunky, hardy little dogs, 12-22lbs. They like to play and will get into trouble if not properly supervised and trained. While they are spunky, they are also wonderful T.V. buddies and traveling companions. Put it this way, they are very curious and playful when down on their all fours, and loving little bears when sitting in your laps.They are good for hours of entertainment. One of our favorite activities is to watch our little guys play with each other in the family room in the evening.
I would not recommend a Westie for a family with very young children. I have two small grandsons and we are always supervising, and teaching proper handling of dogs.Westie’s or any small dog can be injured in no time by a well meaning, unsupervised toddler. It is not in the nature of Westie’s to be aggressive; however being overly loved by a child can lead to an unpleasant situation. If you are seriously thinking of adding a Westie to your family wait until your children are 5 and over. Westies can be wonderful companions for children in the right age group; they love to play and are very loyal.
We receive many requests to visit our kennel; though it is a nice idea to meet the dogs personally, we do not encourage this. We strive to keep our home and property as clean as possilbe for the dogs and puppies. New canine diseases crop up everyday, and each time someone new comes on your property it increases the risk of disease being spread through-out your kennel. In the past we allowed people to visit the litter at 5 weeks old, but no longer due to the increased risk of canine disease coming over from Mexico through puppy smuggling into San Diego County. There will be an opportunity to visit our kennel and meet the sire and dam of the litter when you pick up your puppy at 8 weeks old.
We are very careful about the homes our future puppies will be placed in. We want the best possible situation for them.
